PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

As I have previously mentioned, our current Year 10 students have several options for their Year 11 studies in 2022. The Northern Urban Collective Open Days have been held throughout this week and several of our students attended information sessions such as the ones held at Riverside High (Pharmacy) and Queechy High (Aged Care). These days were wonderful opportunities for students to gain better insights into all of the possibilities that are open to them in the Launceston region. The colleges and High Schools will continue to offer further information over the coming months to ensure our students are making the most informed choices for 2022. As always, please feel free to contact the school should you have any questions around your child’s future.

The City Park radio sessions continue to be successful with the next instalment on September 23rd. Tune in to hear some of the great work that our school has been doing.

Last week our office received a call from Angela Sparrow, general manager of The Caring Network Inc in Exeter. Angela’s organisation has generously donated $3,000.00 to our school to assist local students living with financial hardship. This funding will be kept in trust and used to ensure students in need aren’t disadvantaged due to their socio-economic status. On behalf of Exeter High School staff and students I would like to thank The Caring Network Inc for this generous support. Please contact the school should you wish to access these funds to support the education of your family.

EXETER HIGH REDEVELOPMENT - GET INVOLVED

REDEVELOPMENT OF EXETER HIGH SCHOOL

As you may have heard, the Tasmanian Government has confirmed our school will undergo an $11 million redevelopment, with construction expected to commence in 2023 and be completed in 2025.

This is fantastic news as the redevelopment will deliver contemporary new learning facilities, support spaces, amenities and specialist areas for our students and staff.

Right now, we all have an opportunity to help shape the redevelopment of Exeter High School. The Department of Education is running a community consultation process until 24 September seeking ideas from our students, parents and carers and the broader community to help shape the master plan for our school and prioritise the works to be undertaken.

Please take the time to fill in this short online survey and register to attend the community workshop to be held at the school on Wednesday 22 September from 6.30pm-8pm.

Opportunities to play a role in helping to shape a school don’t come around every day, so make sure you get involved and share your ideas with us.

CITY PARK RADIO, SHOW #5

On the 12th August, our group consisting of Andrew, Shaylan, Charles and Chloe presented a show on City Park Radio ‘Schools Out.’

The focus of our show was our hobbies and aspirations. We discussed in depth and provided numerous examples of novel writing – Robotic Uprising and Glass Memories, voice acting and CGI (Computer Generated Images). Although we had allocated class time and support from Mrs Parish last term, we didn’t quite get our show together. This meant that the first 3 weeks of Term 3 was spent in lunchtime rehearsals with Mrs Parish, to finish developing and fine tuning our show. By the end of the 3 weeks, we had a perfectly timed and smooth-running performance.

When it came time to present in the studio, we were very nervous; however, the more we spoke, the more confident we became. By the end of the show, we felt extremely happy and proud of what we had achieved, but sad it was over.

It was a fun (although nerve racking at times) experience that we would soundly recommend for others to be involved in.

YEAR 7 STEM – WATER ROCKET TESTING

Year 7 STEM students have been having fun designing, constructing, and testing water rockets using inclinometers made in class. The students were testing if the amount of water used in their rockets affected the height of the rocket. Using an inclinometer and a bit of maths, students were then able to estimate the height of each rocket. This information was then recorded in their scientific report.

FROM THE CHAPLAIN

Hi all,

As you may already be aware, we are starting to take donations for the Christmas Box Appeal (see the notice in this Newsletter).

We have a very enthusiastic group of students who are overseeing this, and they have now set up collection stations at school in the Grade 7, 8 & 10 areas along with room 301 and the Main staff room, so any donations can be left at these locations or dropped off to myself on Wednesdays or Fridays until the morning of September 22nd; we will be packing the boxes by term end and I will deliver these to a collection depot over the holidays.

Please see the notice in the Newsletter to check which items are acceptable for the shoeboxes.

If you have any questions or would like to take the challenge up as a family to fill a box, please contact me or have your child come to see me for a flyer and a shoebox to fill.

Lastly, each box has a shipping cost of $10, so if you can contribute to this that would be appreciated. Any donations can be dropped into the School Administration Office for me on Wednesday’s or Friday’s.

ADVENTURE TOURISM - Year 9/10

The Adventure Tourism class have had the opportunity to visit the PCYC in Launceston over the past two Friday afternoon’s. During the sessions students have participated in some Indoor Rock Climbing. This has been an exciting and challenging task in which all students have experienced success at various levels.

Support Operation Christmas Child

This year an enthusiastic group of students and the Chaplain are supporting the Operation Christmas Child appeal and need your help to achieve their goal.

Students have spoken to their peers and are using the small YouTube clip produced by last year’s team to promote this cause. You can view this clip at:
