Principal’s Report
Grade 10 exams were held this week and this gave our students the opportunity to prepare for and sit formal exams in the areas of Mathematics, English, Science and HASS. These results will also provide teachers with another form of assessment for the Grade 10 students. As I have previously mentioned, Grade 10 results are vital in deciding what courses your child can select at college. Please reinforce the need for them to push themselves throughout this term to ensure they receive the best grades possible at the end of Grade 10. Congratulations to all students who made the most of this opportunity and I would also like to say thank you to the teachers who developed the exams and then assess each exam – a lengthy but very worthwhile process.
We also take pride in ensuring that we provide our students with as many opportunities as possible and the past two weeks have been an excellent example of this. Our Grade 10’s travelled to Symmons Plains last Thursday to learn about different aspects of road safety. This was a really important day, where they attended several sessions around what they can expect once they are licenced drivers and the dangers they may face once behind the wheel of a vehicle. Once again, the feedback on our students was that not only was their behaviour and attitude exceptional, but also the questions they asked in each session reflected high levels of interest and understanding.
Of course, another amazing opportunity that our students took part in recently was the trip to Cambodia. Reports from the teachers who attended were overwhelmingly positive. A massive thank you to Mr Lendvay, Mrs Champion, Mrs Howie and Miss Cartledge who both organised the trip and also accompanied our students throughout this 10 day trip. Without the dedication shown by these staff members, such experiences would not be able to be offered.
On Monday 21st, sixteen of our senior students travel to Georgetown to visit several businesses who are looking to employ people in 2020 through School Based Apprenticeships. These apprenticeships are where students are employed in an actual workplace for 2 days per week and then attend school for the other 3 days. Students were able to see first-hand how a business operates and hear from employers the expectations they have for people who they have working in their businesses. The students who attended will have the opportunity to apply for positions in the coming weeks should they be interested.

2019 EHS Athletics Carnival – Wednesday 6th and Thursday 7th November, Windsor Park Riverside
All year 7-10 students will be attending this year’s carnival. Students will be transported by bus to and from the carnival (unless students choose to make their own way to the venue from 8.00am and are collected by a parent/guardian from the venue by 2.45pm).

Follow Your Dreams Dance Competition
During the school holidays on Friday 11th October, the Grade 9 Dance troupe travelled to Hobart to compete in the “Follow Your Dreams Dance Competition”. These dedicated girls have been giving up their lunch breaks for three years to learn the art of dance and it was a privilege to give them the experience of competing in such a prestigious event in front of an expert adjudicator. Despite their nerves, the girls performed beautifully and professionally, handling the pressure of navigating an unfamiliar performance space with ease. In order to be awarded a place, the competitors needed to achieve specific numbers of points which dictated the award they were given. Exeter High School were awarded 1st place with 88 points, crowning them as Regional Champions and qualifying them to compete at the National Championships in Melbourne in January 2020. Congratulations to Elise, Maya, Carrie, Nikita, Sarah, Amy, Jasmine (and Rachel who is also a member of the group but was unable to perform in Hobart).

RYDA at Symmons Plains

Last Thursday, 17th October, all the Year 10s attended RYDA (Rotary Youth Driver Awareness Program) at Symmons Plains. This was a fantastic experience to learn about road safety and awareness. We had six sessions with booklets to follow along and tackle small questions. We were accompanied by volunteers from various Rotary clubs, a local police officer, RACT and more, educating us on cars, their safety ratings and features and how long it takes to come to a complete stop at various speeds. Awareness of other road users, road laws and personal qualities associated with having a licence. Also, two very heartfelt stories of two teenage girls who were involved in crashes. Coming away from this experience has opened our eyes in the way of road safety and how important awareness of others along with self-awareness is.
