Principal’s Report
It’s hard to believe that it is already the end of week four in the last term of 2018. Last Friday was a Professional Learning Day for staff and I was impressed with the way our teachers spent the day reviewing and adapting the first units of work that students will cover in term one 2019. This work ensures that I can guarantee every parent that the curriculum we provide here at Exeter High School is aligned to the Australian Curriculum and the learning tasks that students cover are rigorous and designed to challenge students whatever level they may be currently working at.
Parents will be aware by now that The Australian Education Union has directed its members not to include comments on Term 4 student reports. This may result in inconsistencies in the way reports are presented as some teachers who are not union members will still complete comments. I would encourage all parents to make contact with their child’s relevant teachers to have a discussion about the progress they have made since their mid-year reports were written. Please contact the school office should you wish to have such a conversation.
It’s always a pleasure to follow the successes of our students, both past and present. Elizabeth Jones in Grade 10 has created an inspirational film about mental illness in young people and has entered this in the MyState Film Competition. Good luck Elizabeth in the shortlisting process and we look forward to sharing your film in a whole school assembly later this term. Ex-student Sarah Pennicott has continued to be recognised for her outstanding results in Ten Pin Bowling as she was recently named The Examiner IGA female sportsperson of the year at an awards ceremony. Congratulations Sarah.

Children, adult literacy and 26TEN
Parents play a vital role in the education of their children. For some, this is a real challenge because their own reading, writing and maths skills are not as good as they would like them to be.
In Tasmania we have 26TEN. This name represents the 26 letters of the alphabet and 10 digits we use for counting – the tools for life.
Over the next few issues our newsletter will share information about this network and how it can help adults with their literacy and numeracy.
You’ll see the first article in today’s newsletter.
26TEN helps adults with reading, writing and maths
Did you know that almost half of all adult Tasmanians struggle with everyday reading, writing and maths?
This means there are people in our school community who aren’t able to enjoy reading to their children or helping them with their maths.
Luckily, in Tasmania, we have 26TEN that helps build these skills so parents and carers can support their children’s learning.
If you or someone you know would like to improve your reading, writing or maths skills, call 26TEN on 1300 002 610 or visit link below.

Reading to your child
Did you know that reading to your child is one of the most important things you can do?
Children perform better at school if their parents read to them and help them with their learning. That’s why building skills in parents and carers benefits the whole school community.
If you or someone you know would like some help so you can enjoy reading to your child, you can get help from your local library or by calling 26TEN on 1300 002 610.

AGRICULTURAL STUDIES
Year 8 Exeter High School Agricultural studies students have been creating interactive posters highlighting and comparing how feed moves through a ruminant and a mono-gastric digestive system. Students have demonstrated their knowledge by creating a series of short videos that have been linked to their poster. Students have been learning to use the augmented reality app, HP Reveal to embed videos on their posters.
