PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
Grade 10 exams were held this week, and these were a very valuable experience for all students to undertake. Lengthy tests, under similar strict exam conditions, to those they will experience in the coming years. These exams also provide teachers with yet another opportunity to assess where our Grade 10 students are at in each subject and provide feedback on how they performed during the exams. I was very impressed with the way that students conducted themselves and the behaviour and mature attitudes that were displayed throughout each exam session. A massive thank you to Mrs Parish for her detailed structure and organisation of the sessions that ensured they ran smoothly for all involved. A big thank you too to the teachers who will now assess each exam paper and then provide valuable feedback to students.
Last week’s school social was another roaring success with students going above and beyond to dress up as Iconic Duos and groups. Once again, thank you to staff who attended to make this occasion possible, to Mr Stewart and the SLC who organised the night and activities that students were able to enjoy. To the students who attended – thank you for your outstanding behaviour and the way you all participated throughout the night to make it such a success.
Our amazing senior band “Moody” competed in the Northern Rock Challenge on Friday night and represented our school with an outstanding performance. Thank you to Mr Murfet for his tutelage of the group and congratulations to “Moody” for performing in front of such a large crowd at The Door of Hope. A great learning experience for the band and just another example of the amazing students we have here at Exeter High School.
Just a reminder that next Thursday, 22 September, has been announced as a public holiday and our school will be closed for the day.

EXCELLENCE AT EXETER
These certificates are awarded to two students in each grade in recognition of their efforts in upholding the school values and helping to make our school an excellent learning environment.
Congratulations to this fortnight’s students:
Isabella from 7A: Isabella is a polite and friendly student who consistently upholds our school values. She has a positive attitude towards her schooling and behaves in a respectful manner.
Coby from 7B: Coby is a friendly and respectful student. He demonstrates an excellent work ethic, applying himself across all subject areas to complete tasks to the best of his ability. His settled approach to learning and high school life sets an excellent example to those around him.
Cameron from 8C: Cameron is being recognised for his improved attitude and work ethic and for displaying a more consistent application in core classes this term. He has demonstrated focus and maturity to contribute appropriately to class discussion and has avoided unnecessary off-task interactions. Well done!
Princezz from 8B: Princezz has demonstrated excellence in all tasks undertaken. She is a motivated and aspirational student who is always willing to put in the extra time and effort required to achieve high standards. Princezz is a reliable and mature student who consistently displays confidence and independence as a learner.
Bianca from 9B: Bianca has been working diligently in her core classes to complete all tasks to the best of her ability. She has been respectful to her peers and teachers
Lee from 9A: Lee has been applying himself more consistently across all of his subjects and in doing so, has achieved some excellent results. He also participated in the year 5/6 options day, assisting primary school students with their transition.
William from 10A: William is a friendly and approachable student who demonstrates respectful behaviour towards peers and staff. He actively contributes to class discussions and shares his views on various topics. William works well with others in group situations, encouraging others to make the most of their learning opportunities. He particularly enjoys practical learning activities. William regularly upholds our school values of Learning, Respect and Acceptance.
Lily from 10B: Lily is to be congratulated on the way she has matured over the course of Year 10, with her approach to learning becoming more positive as the year has gone on. It has been great to see her tackling challenging tasks with a growth mindset, as well as the way she participated in the recent College Open days to allow her to gather information about the choices available. Lily is consistently respectful towards staff and peers alike and has shown that she can take on board feedback and put it into practice.
Year 9 Love Bites
On Tuesday 13th September, the Year 9 cohort participated in a program called ‘Love Bites’. This program is externally facilitated and takes students through several sessions exploring a range of topics. The sessions had students looking at what respectful relationships are by considering different scenarios and watching a range of short clips. In the afternoon students had the opportunity to participate in some creative work where they could design a poster to advertise their beliefs surrounding ‘Respectful Relationships’. The day was productive and engaging, with all students participating well. Thank you to David Mackay and his group of facilitators for planning the day.

NEWSTEAD COLLEGE VISIT
Students Explore their Options
On Thursday 1st September, Year 10 students from Exeter High School joined six other high schools exploring Newstead College as they held their Open Day. Exeter students arrived at school early to then catch a bus from Exeter to Newstead. Everyone had mixed feelings for the day, some were excited where others were nervous.
We arrived at Newstead around 9:30am and were taken into the library for a brief introduction and run through of the day. Each student was supplied with a care package as well as a personalised timetable that was suited to them (the students had the opportunity to pick their sessions prior to the day). The day consisted of 4 sessions as well as recess and lunch, giving everyone a good idea of what a college day would look like at Newstead. From there, students made their own way to their first class that commenced at 10:05am, taking in the environment on the way.

Newstead College Open Day
At recess, students gathered with their friends either in the cafeteria or outside and much excitement came from the students, talking about their first lesson and their teachers. Recess lasted for 35 minutes, leaving time for students to make their way to their second class followed by their third and fourth classes.
“I feel as though Newstead is very under rated by students going into College and didn’t take the Open Day very seriously until they realised that the school is very welcoming and accommodating to all students,” said Jennifer Johnstone and she was right in her statement. At the start of the day, students were set on their decisions but by the end they were seriously reconsidering their future school. Newstead has a calm environment that made the students enjoy their day a lot more because it was less stressful to navigate.
Our day ended at 2:30pm when we boarded our buses to head back to Exeter. We want to thank Newstead College for welcoming us into their school and supplying us with ample information to make our decision.
