PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

We are already more than halfway through Term 2 and the temperature is reminding us that we are into the winter months. Students need to continue to wear uniforms that have been ratified by the School Association. There are several options to choose from and parents and students are welcome to ask the administration team to show them these. As I have previously mentioned, we are also able to help support families with the purchase of uniform items to ensure all students are dressed according to the school’s expectations. Thank you in anticipation of your support in this matter over the coming colder months.

A reminder to families that mid-year reports will be distributed in week 8. The new look report will show your child’s learning achievement differently. A new 9-point visual scale replaces A-E ratings for students in Years 1 to 10. The 9-point scale will show more specifically where your child’s learning achievement is against the expected standard for their year level.

There will be no teacher comments on the report. This term, parent/teacher conferences will be offered in Week 9 on the Monday and Tuesday nights from 3.30 – 7.00 pm. These are a great opportunity to discuss how your child is progressing with their learning. Booking information will be sent out in the coming weeks via Facebook and in the actual report envelopes.

For more information about the changes to reports:

Visit the Department of Education’s website at: Reporting - The Department of Education Tasmania

Can I also please ask if any student needs to sign out during the day for appointments etc, can they please bring a note from home that they can show to their teacher and the administration team when they are needing to leave.

Our school participated in the NHSSA Inter-High Cross Country carnival on Tuesday and our students represented us with great pride, placing 3rd in Division 1. Congratulations to Chloe White and Ben Hockey who placed third in their events. We have posted photos on Facebook for parents who were unable to attend.

WHAT IS HAPPEING IN YEAR 8 ENGLISH?

Students are currently engaging with a Film Study Unit. They have viewed the film ‘Matilda’, adapted from Roald Dahl’s book, and have so far focused on the techniques used by film directors to create and capture characterisation. As part of the learning process, students have collated evidence from the film to draw and annotate life-size character posters which will assist them in developing descriptive examples to include in an upcoming essay writing task.
