PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

We have had another excellent, settled start to the term with all classes calm and orderly and this of course allows students to learn to their maximum potential. NAPLAN testing has been held this week for our Grade 7 and 9 students. Students were focussed during these sessions, and we will have data to share with the school community later in the year.

Uniform is being worn by all students and this is important as it engenders pride in the school and is also a safety factor. Please contact the school to discuss uniform options if your child needs new items and as always, we are also able to provide financial assistance in this matter if necessary.

We have recently welcomed several new families, as well as some students who have returned to Exeter High School after stints on the mainland. We also have a new school psychologist, Caitlyn Osborne and she looks forward to working with our students and supporting their needs.

The Exeter High School Farm building is very close to completion, and we are excited about the learning opportunities that this new purpose-built facility will offer our students. I have also been a member of the school’s redevelopment steering committee and we are currently close to finalising the Master Plans. The next step will be to decide on our priority areas and then have architects finalise the plans. We will continue to keep you updated on both projects.

Our SLC members at Anzac Day services

I was so proud at the way our school was represented at the various local ANZAC Day services by our SLC members – Ashlee Norgrove and Ben Hockey spoke at the Exeter Dawn service, Sienna Smith and Jenny Johnstone spoke at 11am and Macy Van Den Berg and Layla Seen spoke at the Beaconsfield service. Each of these speeches reflected the enormous respect and maturity that so many of our students display on a daily basis, and also reflects the community spirit that we engender here at Exeter High. This is just one example of the outstanding community citizens we have here at Exeter High School.

THANK YOU TYLER

Throughout Term 1, Year 9 student Tyler worked tirelessly in our outdoor courtyard. This area was overgrown and uninviting, however Tyler has been dedicated to transforming the space. He has planted several new flowers, done loads of weeding, added some garden ornaments and has recently acquired some bench seats. Tyler has made this area welcoming and a space that can be used regularly. Thank you, Tyler, for your dedication and persistence.

MANAGING COVID-19 IN SCHOOLS

This term, there will be some changes in how COVID-19 cases are managed in schools.

Our school will continue to work closely with Public Health to safely manage any COVID-19 cases, with a focus on testing students and staff who have symptoms.

The number of students and staff with COVID-19 will be closely monitored, and we will work with Public Health to respond as needed. If there’s an increase in cases, Public Health will tell us what we need to do and what actions families will need to take.

Parents and carers will no longer receive a message every time there is an individual case in a class or grade – unless students or staff are medically vulnerable.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our school office.

For more information about COVID-19, please visit the Tasmanian Government Coronavirus website or contact the Tasmanian Public Health Hotline on 1800 671 738, or Department of Education COVID-19 Support Hotline at COVID19support@education.tas.gov.au  or on 1800 816 057.
