PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
This week we held our annual Athletics Carnival at Windsor Park and the participation rates between all grades were outstanding. Once again, our school has represented itself with pride out in the wider community and I am sure that our students who are selected for the upcoming Inter-High carnival will do the same. Thank you to all staff who contributed to making the carnival run so smoothly and successfully.
Launceston College staff were here this week to enrol our grade 10 students for next year. The positive feedback we received from the visiting staff was so pleasing. They found our students well prepared and very enthusiastic. We know that Newstead College will experience the same when they visit on Monday 8th November. Students who were unavailable for their interview can speak with their Grade Leader regarding an enrolment catchup day.
On another note, planning around our whole-school redevelopment is progressing well. We have had a number of meetings with key stakeholders and our timeline is on track. I will provide further updates via our newsletter and Facebook page as I have them to hand.

FINAL CITY PARK RADIO SHOW
On Thursday 22nd October, grade 10 Drama students Isaac and Raph, presented show #6 for ‘Schools Out’ radio session on City Park Radio.
Raph and Isaac had a rather frank discussion regarding ‘things that tick you off, those minor inconveniences that can ruin your day and, on the flip, side, those things that are satisfying or give you a rush of relief.’
Much banter was to be had, and the show flowed seamlessly from one section to the next. A fantastic effort!
We’d like to thank City Park Radio for providing us with this opportunity in 2021.

SENIOR DRAMA PERFORMANCE
TEEN by Kristen Doherty, performed by Grade 9/10 Drama Students.
In week 2, term 4, Senior Drama students performed two shows of TEEN - 9/10’s on the Thursday and all of the grade 7/8’s on the Friday.
Teen is a contemporary play that examines social and emotional issues faced by modern teenagers. The play consists of a selection of short scenes and monologues written within the genre of Epic Theatre. The purpose of Epic Theatre is not to encourage an audience to suspend their disbelief, but rather force them to see their world as it is. Teen explores issues such as bullying, body image, peer group pressure, jealousy, love, anxiety, friendship struggles, sexuality, relationships with parents and the loss of a parent.
Students began working on this play at the start of Term 3. The 9/10 students undertook a fairly arduous process which included: script modification, auditions, character analysis and development, blocking, stage movement, vocal skills, physicalising character, lighting, sound, projections and refining and rehearsing all twenty scenes.
Students were enthusiastic in their application to rehearsals with much support being given to one another in the development of scenes and skills.
A few words from our 9/10 class:
It was an incredible experience that I learnt a great deal from.
It was fantastic that we could rely on each other to help out in each of the scenes.
Leading up to the two performances, we took our focus to a new level as it was suddenly becoming real that we would be performing to packed audiences.
Relieved, glad it is over, but really proud of what we achieved.
I’m still amazed that we put it all together, polished, in such a short time frame of one term.
I feel sad that it is over. We invested so much time and effort and all of a sudden, our two shows have been performed.
When we spoke to several of our audience members, they all admitted they were enthralled for the 70 minutes, “It was actually engaging, definitely thought provoking and entertaining. Time seemed to fly by when we were watching it. It was awesome.”
Congratulations to all our performers: - Isaac, Amy, Tasha, Reiss, Shaylan, Hayley, Annabelle, Jesse, Grace, Katie, Deacon, Layla, Andrew, Chloe, Raphael, Charles, Cameron, Liliana, Ginger, Ashton and to our stage manager Klarissa.

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD SUCCESS
Thank you to all the people who donated to the Samaritans Purse Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Appeal.
With all the items donated we were able to fill 22 boxes which were dropped off to a collection point over the school holidays.
A special thanks goes out to the enthusiastic students who helped with the advertising, collection and packing of the boxes, see photo attached, and to Mr Ty Stewart and the SLC for once again generously donating the shipping costs for the shoeboxes.
I look forward to doing this wonderful project again next year

GRADE 9/10 BAKING
Halloween was the theme of this weeks baking class and the students had a great deal of fun creating their cakes and muffins. Here are a few examples.

COVID-19 VACCINATIONS FOR STUDENTS AGED 12 AND OVER
The Tasmanian Government is working hard to provide the COVID-19 vaccination to all Tasmanian’s aged 12 and above.
As you may be aware there have been a number of clinics run in colleges to vaccinate students in years 11 and 12. There will also be a small number of regional high schools that will host a vaccine clinic but this is not something that will be occurring at high schools in larger population centres at this point in time.
However, there are a number of different options available for parents to arrange for students aged 12 and above to be vaccinated, these include:
- At one of the community clinics across the state. Appointments can be made by visiting www.coronavirus.tas.gov.au/booking or calling the Public Health Hotline on 1800 671 738.
- At participating GPs - contact your local GP directly to make a booking.
- At selected pharmacies - find one near you at findapharmacy.com.au
Vaccination is the best way to protect yourself, your family and the wider community from COVID-19. Don’t wait. Vaccinate.
Young people under the age of 16 are encouraged to attend their vaccination appointment with a parent or guardian.
There are a number of places where you are able to find more information in relation to the COVID-19 vaccine. You may like to look at this information with your child to support them in understanding more about the vaccination:
- Information from the Australian Government about COVID-19 vaccines
- Information from the Tasmanian Government about COVID-19 vaccines
- Information from the Western Australia Government through a video presented by Dr Karl Kruszelnicki which answers common questions and dispel myths about COVID-19 vaccines.
WALL OF PRIDE
The Exeter High School Wall of Pride is a pictorial record of former students who have achieved outstanding success in their chosen field of endeavour since leaving our school. It recognises positive contributions made in society, and achievement in its broadest sense.
A committee made up of staff, student and community representatives determine the degree to which nominees meet the general guidelines and decide on the recipient/s.
There is one essential criteria that all nominees must meet: A nominee must have completed Grade 10 at Exeter High School. (If any student attended another high school for another part of their high school years this is irrelevant).
The general guidelines are as follows:
- What personal qualities does this person have that makes them stand
out in society?
i.e., generosity, contribution to the community. - What personal achievements has this person made, i.e., in academic study, business or sport?
- What contribution/s has this person made in their chosen field of endeavour, i.e., leadership, reliability, perseverance, initiative?
Please forward application(s) to:- Exeter High School, Wall of Pride Nominations, Glen Ard Mohr Road, Exeter Tas. 7275
Applications close Monday, 15th November 2021.
