PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
By now, a lot of our school community would have heard the advertisements for people to have input into the upcoming redevelopment of Exeter High School. The Tasmanian Government has confirmed Exeter High will undergo an $11 million redevelopment, with construction expected to commence in 2023 and be completed in 2025. Right now, we all have an opportunity to help shape the redevelopment of Exeter High School. Please take the time to fill in the short online survey and register to attend the community workshop to be held at the school on Wednesday 22 September from 6.30pm-8pm. Visit the link below for more information and to book. I would encourage as many people as possible to take part in the process so that we end up with new learning spaces that best cater for the 21st Century learning needs of our students.

Aspiration is one of the Tasmanian Education Department’s four core values and I believe an essential quality and attribute for students to have. Please have a discussion over the coming weeks with your children about what exactly their aspirations are, both at school and outside of the school setting. It is important for our young people to be aspirational and to set goals for themselves to help them achieve these. Talk to your child about how, if they are currently receiving C awards in classes, they should aim for a B or likewise, if they are receiving B’s, aim for an A on their next test or assignment. We can all aim to do better, and it is up to the individual, with the assistance of those around them, to strive to achieve their full potential.
Attendance is always an essential component of a successful education and I have recently talked to several parents about their struggles in getting their children to school at times. If this is the case, please contact your child’s Grade AST or Team Leader to discuss these issues. Often, when we work in collaboration, we can come up with strategies and solutions to get children reengaged and have more regular attendance recommence and therefore, more successful educational outcomes from being in the classroom, receiving teacher instructions and directions on a regular basis.

EXETER HIGH REDEVELOPMENT
REDEVELOPMENT OF EXETER HIGH SCHOOL
Don’t forget to have your say right now on the $11 million redevelopment of Exeter High School
The Department of Education is running a community consultation process until 24 September seeking ideas from our students, parents and carers and the broader community to help shape the master plan for our school and prioritise the works to be undertaken.
If you haven’t yet done so, fill in this short online survey and register to attend the community workshop to be held at the school on Wednesday 22 September from 6.30pm-8pm.
Opportunities to play a role in helping to shape a school don’t come around every day, so make sure you get involved and share your ideas with us.

EXPERIENCE OF A LIFETIME – WINDEWARD BOUND
From the 16th to the 25th of August, Aimee Ringk and Emily Franks went on the experience of a lifetime on the Windeward Bound, celebrating 100 years of Rotary. The Windeward Bound is an authentic traditional square-rigged Tall Ship and replicates early vessels that explored and worked in this area. This Tall ship was built off blueprints created in 1848 but wasn’t constructed until 1996. The Windeward Bound was primarily made from recycled timber and donated parts. The 10-day voyage sent them on an adventure to Oakhampton Bay and return, while circumnavigating Maria Island. The crew of Windeward Bound used their knowledge and expertise to guide and support the young trainees through the challenging yet exciting journey. They anchored at Oyster Bay and enjoyed a three-course indigenous meal made by the amazing chef, Jenni, on arrival to Oyster Cove which has a deep history linked to Aboriginal people. “Overall, it was an awesome experience and taught us so many skills that we can use in our everyday lives. We would definitely recommend this unique experience to any young leaders aged from 14-17 years old!”
Aimee Ringk and Emily Franks
