PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
Welcome back to Term 3. Despite all of the uncertainties around the latest Covid-19 issues, we have had a very settled and calm start to this term, which I thank all staff and students for. We have also welcomed Mr Ben Murfet to our staff, and this has allowed us to offer Music to our students. We have had a lot of enthusiasm from our students with Mr Murfet having a class of 18 Year 9/10 students eagerly participating in his Music lessons over the last two weeks, which has been tremendous to see.
This past Monday and Tuesday nights saw our 3-Way Parent/Teacher/Student interviews and this was a great opportunity to discuss each student’s progress and set goals for further development over the remainder of the year. The atmosphere within the room on both nights was overwhelmingly positive and I hope students take on the advice provided by their teachers both in their written reports and interviews to continually strive to be their best.
We had each of our grades hold celebration assemblies this week and it was fantastic to see so many of our students receive recognition for their successes across all curriculum areas. Congratulations to all who were recognised for their efforts throughout the first half of the year. A huge congratulations also to Hannah Carr, as she has made the Tasmanian Cross Country team. We will keep you informed of Hannah’s result once the event has been held.
Students from Mrs Parish’s Drama class have been regular presenters on City Park Radio and will once again be participating in this throughout Term 3. They held a session last Thursday and will again be on the airwaves on August 12th at 4.30 pm. Listen in to hear their amazing work.
Our Capital Works project on the school farm has commenced, with several older building being removed in preparation for the new construction to commence in the coming weeks. We will continue to provide updates and photos as the site further develops throughout the remainder of 2021.
Just a reminder, too, that all visitors to the school need to check-in using the CHECK IN TAS app or manually at the main office in accordance with the Tasmanian Government’s requirements. Thank you to everyone for their understanding with this over the past two weeks.

GRADE 8 DRAMA
Last term, Grade 8 Drama students worked on developing two Children’s Theatre Performances. On Tuesday 29th June, Preps – Grade 2 from Exeter Primary School, attended a performance of one of the plays, ‘A Walk Before Breakfast’ by Vicki Riba Koestla. A Walk Before Breakfast is a comedy with all your favourite fairy tale characters – the Three Bears, Snow White, the Seven Dwarfs, Sleeping Beauty, Goldilocks, Hansel and Prince Pleasant (brother of Prince Charming)! Papa Bear thinks his middle-school-aged son has “an attitude”. Worse, he considers him lazy and uninterested in learning. But when the Bear family takes a walk in the woods, the bear formerly known as Baby Bear, offers assistance to several storybook characters along the way and Papa Bear has to revise his opinion.
The Grade 8’s presented a polished and animated performance that thoroughly entertained their young audience.
At the conclusion of the performance, the EPS students asked questions of the performers, ranging from what they had to do to produce the performance to ‘Are the dwarf’s beards real?’
Grade 8 Drama would like to thank EPS students for trekking across to Exeter High and being their audience for the afternoon.

FORENSICS TRIP
On Wednesday the 23rd June, the year 9/10 Forensics class along with Mrs Stone and Mr Pratap visited the Launceston Police Station as part of looking into the work life of a Forensics officer. Senior Constable Annabel Shegog was very enthusiastic and informative in her description of what occurs behind the scenes of a very busy police station. The students were shown the reception area, the yard where the different types of police vehicles are kept and the booking area where suspected criminals are processed including obtaining samples of DNA, photos and fingerprints. Upstairs we were fortunate to meet one of the very busy Forensic officers, Senior Constable Marcus Williams, who showed us the methodology behind the gathering of forensic evidence, the clothes they have to wear to every suspected crime scene as well as explaining the ‘chain of evidence’ that retains the authenticity of the evidence for use in a court of law. Students gained a very valuable insight into what it is like to work in such a technical field of science and were able to link much of the work we do in class to the role of a Forensics officer. Our thanks goes to Senior Constable Shegog and the Launceston Police department for allowing us to visit their place of work and to be given such an informative tour.

CITY PARK RADIO, SHOW #3
In 9/10 drama, we were given the opportunity to be a part of the program “Schools Out!” on City Park Radio from 4:30pm till 5pm. On 1 July, group 3, consisting of Jesse, Katie, Amy and Annabelle, were the lucky group to go down to the station and perform live. We talked about our grade 9/10 drama class and Exeter High, took a couple of interviews, and briefly discussed the Newstead College and Launceston College open days. With the interviews, we were lucky enough to invite our very own Miss Hall and Mr Lendvay.
The discussion regarding our drama class, touched on how much we have bonded and that we are like one big family. We can easily work with one another without being afraid to. We talked about our Drama production at the ANZAC assembly and about the play we are in the works of producing, ready to perform hopefully by week 8, this term. Our drama class is one very fun and amazing class that everyone is glad they took up. We have created a bond so strong, that we think we will never be able to break.
We were lucky enough to interview Miss Hall. We talked about what grades and classes she takes at Exeter High School and what inspired her to become a teacher. Following Miss Hall’s interview, we had another one of our fantastic teachers in - Mr Lendvay. We discussed the Introduction to Automotive class he takes, touching on why he wanted to teach it and a disaster lesson he once experienced. During each of the music breaks, we took up the opportunity to briefly go over the next segment. During this time, we had some banter with Mr Lendvay regarding his CrossFit training that we were taking him away from.
Our last segment was to do with the Newstead College and Launceston College open days. Unfortunately, our conversation was cut short as we were running overtime. We had to cut it by 4 minutes!!
Being a part of City Park Radio has certainly boosted our confidence and opened a door to new opportunities.

COMMUNITY CORNER
Wing’s Wildlife Park – Junior Keeper Experience
To celebrate National Science Week Wing’s Wildlife Park are hosting a ‘Junior Keeper Experience’ workshop.
Kids! Get involved in Science Week by discovering the science behind animal care right in the heart of where it all takes place. Join us on Saturday, 14th August 2021 for a taste of what is involved in working behind the scenes at Wing’s Wildlife Park – home to the largest collection of Tasmanian wildlife in Australia.
Our Junior Keeper Experience offers the unique opportunity for children aged 6 to 14 to get hands-on and experience behind the scenes action at Wing’s Wildlife Park by engaging with wildlife and the keepers who manage them and assisting with food preparation and maintenance of wildlife enclosures. Kicking off at 10.30am the Junior Keeper Experience will give a glimpse into the day to day duties of a wildlife keeper and include interactive learning opportunities such as food preparation and enrichment, animal feeding and cleaning animal enclosures. Tailored information sessions on some of our most interesting Australian wildlife will give plenty of opportunity for questions from inquiring minds and Junior Keepers will break for lunch during the day (lunch is included as part of this experience).
Our vision is to encourage children to improve their knowledge in wildlife conservation and awareness or even consider a career in animal management, care or captive wildlife without the need to leave the North West Coast of Tasmania.
