Principal’s Report
As we draw to the close of Term 2, I would like to celebrate some of the positive things that have been happening at our wonderful school. Reports have been written and these will be sent home with students on Wednesday, 30th June.
Our Grade 10 students recently completed exams for English, Mathematics, Science and HASS. From what I saw as I visited the exam sessions, students grasped this challenging but important opportunity with much enthusiasm, and they will benefit from this experience in the years ahead. Exams are an integral part of any further study that students will undertake, and last week’s experience will be invaluable to our students. Thank you to the Grade 10 team for organising and assessing these exams.
Our Grade 10 students have also visited both Launceston and Newstead colleges this week on Orientation Days. These days provided students with the opportunity to familiarise themselves with both campuses, as well as experiencing different subject choices they may be interested in studying in 2022. Both colleges will have enrolment sessions at our school later in the year where parents are invited to come in to have input into their child’s 2022 courses. Students will also have the opportunity to enrol in Year 11 courses that are being offered across other Launceston High Schools and they have been given information on these.
Our current Year 11 students have recently been participating in working days on various farms. A representative from a local agribusiness was so impressed by them that he offered them all work experience in the coming months. This is a great reflection on the course that we are offering here as well as the exceptional calibre of our Year 11 students. Our students will also be undertaking exams for their Level 3 courses and these will be held at Newstead College over the coming weeks. Once again, the experience they had last year with exams here will hold them in good stead for these. Thank you to Mr Fox for organising these days and Mrs Hall-Dadson for her teaching and guidance of our students.
Lastly, thank you to all of our amazing school community for their ongoing support of our school. Our parents, staff, students and local businesses all work together to make our school the great place it is and provide our students with the best possible opportunities on a daily basis.

9/10 AGRICULTURAL SCIENCE
Year 9/10 Agricultural Science students have been undertaking a forage crop trial comparing the growth rates between Ryecorn and Oats. Students were allocated trial plots and were responsible for calculating seed and fertiliser rates. Students also had a visit from the Revitalising School Farms Northern Network Leader Scott Watson, who ran a session using a range of data collection devices.

YEAR 11’s - TESTING THEIR SKILLS
Over the last 3 weeks the Year 11 VET students have been putting their skills to the test whilst working at the Mitchelson family’s farm. The students have been involved in activities that align to their course units including marking and identifying livestock, constructing fences and the highlight thus far, tractor driving. The students have also been putting their quad bike skills to use whilst carrying out morning and afternoon checks of the ewes that are currently lambing.

CITY PARK RADIO, SHOW #2
On the 16th of June, four senior drama students from Exeter High School performed live on City Park Radio. Deacon, Reiss, Ashton and Isaac all worked together over the span of 7 weeks to construct and refine an amazing script for our radio show. We focussed on the power and influence behind music and it’s evolution over the decades. During the creation of our script, we aimed to keep it informative and casual, while also emitting an aura of light-heartedness (complete with friendly banter). We compiled our thoughts, knowledge and experiences with music in our lives to cobble together a show that we thought everyone would enjoy.
For every segment of the show, each of us chose a song that aligned to what we were about to talk about. For weeks, we toiled away in class and sacrificed our lunchtimes, to make sure everything was up to scratch.
When the day arrived, we were entirely prepared. Things ran smoothly and not a mistake was made, even when we sang impromptu on air for a little. Right at the end of the show, we had a few extra seconds spare and decided to give some impromptu shoutouts.
“After toiling away for many a week, and then hearing it afterwards, I knew that our efforts had made a masterpiece. I must praise my group for how they handled themselves on the show, and their last-minute unscripted lines,” commented Deacon on his group.
It was a fantastic experience and some us can’t wait to do it again in Term 3.

The next City Park live broadcast by our Senior Drama students will be Thursday, 1 July at 4:30pm

WRITE A BOOK IN A DAY
Last Friday, 10 students from Exeter High School, along with Year 5 and Year 6 students from our feeder primary schools, participated in the annual Write a Book in a Day competition. Students worked in teams to write and illustrate books according to specific parameters – all within a 12-hour time limit. It was a busy and exhausting day, but students worked diligently and cooperatively to produce books of a high standard. Their books will now be judged, and then distributed to children’s wards in hospitals across Australia. We look forward to participating in Write a Book in a Day in 2022.

Wing’s Wildlife Park – Junior Keeper Experience
To celebrate National Science Week Wing’s Wildlife Park are hosting a ‘Junior Keeper Experience’ workshop.
Kids! Get involved in Science Week by discovering the science behind animal care right in the heart of where it all takes place. Join us on Saturday, 14th August 2021 for a taste of what is involved in working behind the scenes at Wing’s Wildlife Park – home to the largest collection of Tasmanian wildlife in Australia.
Our Junior Keeper Experience offers the unique opportunity for children aged 6 to 14 to get hands-on and experience behind the scenes action at Wing’s Wildlife Park by engaging with wildlife and the keepers who manage them and assisting with food preparation and maintenance of wildlife enclosures. Kicking off at 10.30am the Junior Keeper Experience will give a glimpse into the day to day duties of a wildlife keeper and include interactive learning opportunities such as food preparation and enrichment, animal feeding and cleaning animal enclosures. Tailored information sessions on some of our most interesting Australian wildlife will give plenty of opportunity for questions from inquiring minds and Junior Keepers will break for lunch during the day (lunch is included as part of this experience).
Our vision is to encourage children to improve their knowledge in wildlife conservation and awareness or even consider a career in animal management, care or captive wildlife without the need to leave the North West Coast of Tasmania.
