Principal’s Report

Welcome back to the school year and I am proud to report on what an amazing start last week was. I visited every classroom throughout the week and classes were settled and students were fully engaged in their learning. Everyone is in full school uniform, and this is the expectation for the remainder of the year. If anyone is experiencing hardship in relation to the ongoing costs of uniform, please contact the school as we have support available to ensure every student has access to uniform items.

I would like to thank all of the Administration Team and Facility Attendants for their commitment to having the school ready for students on the first day.

We will continue to focus on our four core school values of Acceptance, Learning, Respect and Maturity and our expectation is that everyone in our school community follows these on a daily basis. These values are not only an expectation whilst our students are at school but also in the wider community. By abiding by these throughout their school years, students are being given the tools essential to being valued and successful contributors throughout their lives.

We welcome Mr Daniel Comins to our staff this year. Daniel will be replacing Mr Atkinson who has taken up a position on the West Coast. Welcome Daniel and good luck Mr Atkinson at your new school.

Positive relationships between school and home are vital in the success of students during their schooling years. If you ever have any questions or concerns in relation to your child’s education, please contact the school straight away. The first contact is always their Core teacher, and these are listed in this week’s newsletter. More often than not, these concerns can be easily addressed and resolved.

Mobile phones are not allowed in classrooms as per the Education Department’s mobile phone policy. As a result of this, classes are definitely more settled as students do not have the distraction of their phones during learning times. As a result, if you need to contact your child during lesson times, please contact the school office and the message will be passed on to your child to contact you at an appropriate time. Students will not be permitted to take calls during lesson time.

Canteen orders via Qkr! App

Recess or Lunch orders can be placed online using the Qkr! App. Orders will need to be placed prior to 9:00am for same day orders, or you can order up to a week in advance. Please remember to tell your child if you have placed an order for them.

Lunch order bags and menus are also available from Grade Areas or on the table in the foyer/serving area outside the Canteen. Students should take their Recess/Lunch order bags and money to the Canteen between 8:45am to 9:15am.

CANTEEN VOLUNTEERS

For the canteen to operate efficiently and effectively, we require the assistance of parents and/or guardians and friends. If you are able to help us out between the hours of 10:00am and 1:30pm on any day, please contact our Canteen Supervisor Leah Blazely on 6394 4366.

*All persons working or volunteering in Department of Education schools and colleges are required to hold a valid Working with Vulnerable People Registration.

Validation & Policy Agreement Forms

Thank you to all parent/carers who have already completed and returned these important forms. Validation forms give the school updated emergency contact details as well as medical details; 2021 permission for photo use and samples of work on media platforms such as our school newsletter, DoE websites and Facebook; and permission to attend minor excursions.

It is essential that your child’s Validation and Policy forms are returned as quickly as possible.

Immunisation - Grade 7 & 10

The National Immunisation Program provides free vaccines for students in Grade 7 and Grade 10. Students in Grade 7 are offered free vaccines to protect against Diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis (whooping cough) (dTpa): Your child should have been immunised for these diseases when they were an infant. This is a booster dose to maintain protection. Grade 7s are also vaccinated for Human papillomavirus (HPV). Two doses are required.

Grade 10 students are offered a free Meningococcal ACWY vaccine. Only a single immunisation is required.

Forms were sent home with students earlier this week. They will need to be completed, signed and returned to the Administration Office by next Wednesday, 17 February 2021.

West Tamar Council will co-ordinate the immunisation program. A date for vaccines is yet to be confirmed but may be late in Term 1 or early in Term 2.
