Principal’s Report

I would like to begin our final newsletter for 2020 by thanking all the parents and families who attended the Grade 10 Presentation Assembly last Friday. We obviously had to hold the assembly in accordance with new guidelines, however, the messages to our Grade 10 students remain as they have in the past. Believe in yourselves, have the courage to accept and embrace new challenges and opportunities that present themselves in the coming years. Thank you also to the ongoing support we receive from the various businesses and individuals who support our Presentation Assembly through their kind donations. We also took this opportunity to farewell Mrs Angela Howie who has taught here for 17 years – we wish Mrs Howie all the best as she moves to Riverside High School.

Our Graduation Dinner was also a fantastic event and our students looked amazing on the night. Thank you to the parents and staff who made sure this special night was such a memorable one for the 2020 Grade 10 cohort. Congratulations to all our Grade 10 students who represented their grade and our school with pride throughout the night.

Once again, we have many amazing achievements by our students to celebrate, both within our school and with other endeavours out in the community. Grade 8 student Chloe was recently elected as Junior Mayor for the West Tamar Council which is the first time someone has held this position. This will no doubt be an interesting year ahead for Chloe representing the youth of the region and I look forward to hearing more about her role throughout 2021.

We recently had two of our Grade 9 students receive recognition for the amazing work they have done throughout the year at Studentworks. Josh was presented with an award for his commitment to the program, along with his excellent attendance record. The Learning Together award for the student who has demonstrated the principles of co-operations commitment, consistency and willingness to undertake all that is expected of them was won by Vawn. Vawn was also presented with the Michael Ferguson award for Young Leaders.

In closing, I would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a safe and happy New Year. Enjoy the summer break, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back in early February.

Overland Track 2020

Our Overland adventure unfortunately got cut short due to severe weather conditions. The Tasmanian weather threw everything it had at us- rain, hail, 90+km/hr wind and snow! We were forced to turn back after one night on the track. The entire group dug deep and demonstrated resilience to retrace our first day’s hike. After freezing and treacherous conditions, we enjoyed a final night in the lovely warm cabins at Cradle Mountain. It was not the trip we had planned but it was still a once in a lifetime experience and we came away with some amazing memories.
