Principal’s Report

It has been a busy and productive start to this, the final term of what has been a truly memorable year. We have the Athletics Carnival coming up, Grade 10 students transitioning to Colleges and our 2021 Year 7 students also undertaking orientation visits in the coming weeks. It is vital that all students continue to attend every day and make the most of every learning opportunity they are presented with in the next 8 weeks.

Our Grade 10 students have exams next week and these are both a great indication as to the understanding that students have of the curriculum covered this year, but also valuable practise for the exam conditions that students will experience in their college years.

Our Grade 11/12 classroom refurbishment will commence in the coming weeks and this will be an exciting 21st Century learning space for our Rural Operations students in 2021. We will keep everyone informed of the progress through future newsletters.

We also must congratulate Shani, Grade 8 student, who was recently awarded the Best and Fairest for the Tamar Demons Football club, along with the award for the Association’s Best and Fairest player. An outstanding achievement from Shani.

EHS Athletics Carnival 2020

The annual Athletics Carnival will be held on Wednesday 4th and Thursday 5th November at Windsor Park. This year, the carnival will be a closed event in order for us to comply with our Covid-19 Safety Plan. We apologise for any inconvenience to parents, guardians and family members who would normally support this event.

The school will provide transport for students via bus to and from the carnival on both days and students are required to wear the school sports uniform and house singlets where possible in readiness for participation in the tabloid schedule of events. Whilst sunscreen will be provided, we encourage all students to come prepared with sun protection as well as appropriate attire for all weather conditions.

Some students may opt to meet us at Windsor Park in the mornings and attendance will be passed onto the school office for updating. This year, we cannot allow students to be dismissed directly from the venue as we would not be able to follow the normal protocol of meeting or sighting the person with whom the students leaves. For this reason, all students will be required to bus back to school at the end of each day.

What’s Happening in Grade 8?

This term Grade 8 HASS students have been looking at Tasmanian laws as a part of their Civics & Citizenship unit. On display in core rooms are examples of some of the laws students researched.

Grade 8 Science students have been exploring the particle model theory in chemistry which looks at how particles are arranged in solids, liquids and gases, and how adding or removing heat can cause the movement of these particles to change. A series of experiments have been undertaken to observe a change in state, a physical or chemical change or expansion or contraction occurring.

Ag Student Success at Forum

On Wednesday 21 October Year 9/10 Ag students travelled to Hagley Primary School to present inquiry projects that they have been working on. Other Ag students from around the north of the state were also present. Our students presented their projects to four adjudicators, practicing their public speaking skills and sharing their knowledge of their researched topic. The adjudicators awarded Elise, Amy and Sarah with first place for best project.

The girls project involved comparing nitrogen fertilisers to measure differences in pasture growth rate. You may have seen their trial plots in the front paddock of the school farm over the last six weeks. We congratulate the girls for their efforts as well as Daniel, Josh and Ryan.
