Principal’s Report

I often comment in our newsletters about how calm and orderly our school is and last week, we had a visitor from another school spend a day at Exeter High. The visitor was continually complimentary about the way students conducted themselves both in the classrooms he visited and the yard at break times. Our school truly is an amazing place and it gives me great pride to show people around.

Mid-year reports were sent home with students a couple of weeks ago. Please contact your child’s teacher should you have any questions or concerns. This is best done through the school office.

Now that schools have returned to normal operations, attendance concerns will be followed up with Grade teams making phone calls to parents if their child is absent for prolonged periods of time. If your child is absent, please contact the office either by phone or by replying to the SMS attendance alert that will be sent so that we can amend our records accordingly.

Grade 8 HASS

In Geography students are examining the processes that shape individual landforms within a variety of landscapes and the significance of these landforms. Displayed in the Grade 8 core classrooms are students’ interpretations of the world’s landscapes and the typical landforms within each.

Grade 8 Science

In Grade 8 Science students have been exploring how energy is used and transformed in their Physics unit. As a part of their inquiry project, students worked in small groups to research, design and create a car powered by a household mousetrap. Check out some of their creations!

On the Farm

During terms 1 and 2, Agricultural Studies students took on the task of raising pigs. Students investigated housing, husbandry techniques, diet requirements and butchering. A highlight of the unit was the opportunity for students to learn about the different cuts of pork at Nigel’s Gourmet on Tamar from Nigel himself. Students were involved with the whole process along with packaging customer orders. A huge thankyou to Nigel and his wife Catherine for the opportunity and offer to teach more students about the art of becoming a butcher and they role they play in providing the community with a quality product. If you missed out on purchasing some pork this time around don’t worry, we will have some more available later in the year. If you’re a fan of lamb, keep an eye on the school Facebook page for more information about how to get your order in when our young butchers take on their next challenge.

Year 9 Science

Year 9’s are studying the respiratory and circulatory systems in Science this term. They conducted a dissection to better understand how the heart and lungs work.

From the Nurses Desk – Medication at school update

Hi all, just a quick note to let you all know that if your child requires Medication while at school the processes have recently been reviewed with some adjustments being implemented state-wide to enhance the procedures and process and ensure they align with The Poisons Act. If your child requires Medication while at school, please read the following information. A parent fact sheet will also be sent home with your child if they are currently taking medication at school.

Cheers Nurse Dave
