Principal’s Report
As we continue to work through these unprecedented times, I continue to be proud of the way our school community have adapted to our new way of learning. Students who have been studying at home have been participating in conferences with their teachers, while students who are attending school have also been completing their normal curriculum, through CANVAS.
A reminder to parents and students that the Education Department’s start date for Years 7-10 is Tuesday June 9 and I look forward to seeing our students return to our classrooms. As of June 9, all teaching and learning will be conducted in normal classes, however, if a student is at home for a medical reason, they will still be able to access their work through CANVAS, however, there will no longer be conferencing after this date.
We will continue to update families of any news from the Education Department as it comes to hand. Once again, thank you to our amazing school staff for the wonderful support they have provided our students and families. I would also like to acknowledge the tremendous work that families have done supporting their children over the past weeks in supporting their learning as well as general wellbeing.

Year 10 Newstead College and Launceston College Transition
As transition information sessions are not taking place at the moment, Launceston College and Newstead College have produced videos to view what the two colleges have on offer.

Year 10 Easter Raffle
Could all students who still have unsold/partly sold/sold raffle books for the Easter Raffle please return the books along with any monies to the school office as soon as possible. Due to the nature of the end of term 1 this raffle was unable to be drawn. As soon as all books and monies have been returned winners will be announced. We hope to be able to draw this raffle next week.

Cambodia 2021
Next year will, hopefully, see our third Cambodia trip take place. At this stage we are being optimistic that international travel will be approved by the department and able to go ahead. In the current climate it is not possible to hold an information evening, so we are asking parents of students currently in years 8 and 9 to have a chat to see if your child is interested in attending.
If that is the case it would be worth starting to put money aside to pay for the trip, as you could be looking at around $3,500. The price includes: all travel costs (planes, busses, tuk-tuks etc); all meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) including purified water; entry fees into places such as Cambodian temples, museums, Singapore Zoo; Western style accommodation with en-suite, that usually has a swimming pool; and travel insurance while on the ground in Cambodia and Singapore. In the past the trip has been held in the last week of term 3 and goes into the school holidays, we would anticipate a similar time frame next year. The trip would be for 12 days, including travelling time.
If you would like more information a letter, which was created after our first meeting in 2019 detailing all that was discussed, will be available from the school office. At this point staffing for the trip has not been finalised, but if you wish to find out more information you can look on International Journeys facebook page or contact the school and speak to Angela Howie, Skye Champion, Naomi Cartledge or Stefan Lendvay.
Canteen update for term 2
Please note that the school canteen is open for business as usual for students attending school. You will, however, note that there are a few changes on the QKR! App as well as over the counter sales options.
The changed menu will end on Friday 29 May and we will revert to our original menu from Monday 1 June.
Breakfast Club
Breakfast Club is running on Wednesday and Friday morning this term. You will find Paul in the kitchen in the Home Economics block from 8.30am till 8.55am. Please call by, have something to eat and drink, and say hello to our school Chaplain.

City Mission needs your assistance – Pandemic Crisis Appeal
We are currently running the Pandemic Crisis Appeal to help those affected by the pandemic. Due to high demands we are reaching the end of our food and toiletry resources. We are asking people to replace non-perishable donations with financial donations, allowing us to purchase food vouchers for those in need without putting anyone at risk.
We invite everyone to share our appeal through social media, friends and family, to help us support those doing it tough.
