Principal’s Report
Thank you to our students and staff for how amazing they have been over the past weeks where we have been in unchartered waters on so many fronts. As a school, we have been: continually reminding and encouraging students to regularly wash hands; hand sanitiser is provided in classrooms and open areas; discussing the importance of social distancing where possible and our Educational Facility Attendants are doing an amazing job sanitising areas at the end of each day.
We are also updating parents as we receive information from the Education Department and we as a school are following the mandated protocols as directed by the Government. It is important that you continue to notify us if your child is away from school so that maintain our records. If you have any questions or concerns over the coming weeks, please contact the school to discuss these. You can also call the Education hotline on 1800816057 for updated advice.
On a lighter note, as a sign of these current times where mass gatherings are not permitted, the School Leadership Council still held their annual World’s greatest Shave last Friday. We had Mr Lendvay and three grade 10 students Ella, Rhys and Josh participate in this event this year. The SLC videoed this event to be shared on our school’s Facebook page. Thank you to Tameka, Jane and Jayda from Exeter Hair and Beauty for supporting this important event once again.

Grade 8 SRC 2020
Congratulations to our Grade 8 Student Representative Council (SRC) for 2020. These students have been elected by their peers to represent the grade and will work alongside the other grade SRC and SLC throughout the year, assisting with fundraisers, social events and celebration assemblies while continuing to build on their leadership skills. Well done to Jennifer, Danielle, Elie, Edward, Dylan, Chloe, Amethyst and Alana.
Grade 8 History
In History, Grade 8 students have been studying the Vikings and learning how to read and interpret information presented on timelines. To demonstrate their knowledge, they created their own timeline with key dates and information relating to the Viking age. These beautifully presented timelines are currently on display in the Grade 8 core classrooms.
Adventure Tourism
On Wednesday 19th February, the year 9/10 Adventure Tourism class attended an excursion to Meander to participate in the river sledding from Meander Wildlife Experiences. A group of almost 20 students, Mrs Robinson and Mr Atkinson travelled by bus to the local memorial hall for a run-down of the activity and to collect and change into wetsuits, water shoes, helmets, and life jackets. Leaving the rest of our belongings, we continued on the bus for about 20 minutes and reached the bush. After some safety instructions, we grabbed our sleds and walked down to the river.
One by one, we jumped onto our sleds, lying on our bellies and paddling around the start of the rapids. After around 10 minutes of practise paddling forwards, backwards and turning around, one of the guides paddled off and we started our adventure. We dodged rocks, branches and each other as we rushed through the rapids. We paddled, we wriggled, we laughed and we had a great time learning about each other and making new friendships. Around 2 hours later, we had reached the end of our tour and dragged ourselves out of the river.
We would like to give a big thank you to Daniel Wickham for coming up to our school twice to talk to our class about his business and employment opportunities in his sector. Thanks also to our guides, Felix and Ryan, for helping us all the way through our adventures. All of us thoroughly enjoyed the experience and learnt a lot about how an Adventure Tourism business operates.

World’s Greatest Shave 2020
On Friday 20th of March three brave students and a teacher shaved their heads for the World’s Greatest Shave. Leading up to the event the school’s SLC collected small change that will be combined with online donations for the Leukaemia Foundation. Ella, Josh, Rhys and Mr Stefan Lendvay all participated in this worthy cause. Ella donated her hair to an organisation that makes wigs, on top of shaving her head. While we couldn’t have a live audience because of our current circumstances, we have posted a video on the school Facebook page. Thank you for all your donations!
