Principal’s Report

As I mentioned in the most recent newsletter, term four is always an extremely busy time in schools and we now only have six weeks remaining in the year. It is very important however, that all students remain focussed for the remainder of the year as the content they learn over those six weeks will help prepare them for 2020. Our Grade 10 students recently sat formal exams in Mathematics, English, History and Science. I was so impressed with the application and maturity shown by these students during the exam session and they are to be congratulated on this.

This week we held our annual Athletics Carnival at Windsor Park and the participation rates between all grades were outstanding. Several records were broken which was great to see, however, the highlight for me was to witness the way students continually encouraged and supported each other over the two days. This reflected the fact that two of our core values of Respect and Maturity were truly on display and made me very proud as Principal of Exeter High School. I also received overwhelmingly positive feedback from staff and parents who attended the carnival about the behaviour of students. Once again, our school has represented itself with pride out in the wider community and I am sure that our students who are selected for the upcoming Inter-High carnival will do the same. Thank you to all staff who contributed to making the carnival run so smoothly and successfully.

Teachers will soon commence writing end of year reports and I would encourage all students to ensure that they complete all classwork, homework and assignments to ensure they are awarded the best results.

On Wednesday, 23rd October Grade 7 student Layla was presented with a Growth award for her efforts in the 2019 NAPLAN testing. The Growth awards are presented to students who have demonstrated significant academic growth over a two-year period. The awards were presented by the Minister of Education the Honourable Jeremy Rockcliff. This is an amazing achievement for Layla.

DIABETES AWARENESS "LAP THE MAP" WALK SUNDAY 17TH NOVEMBER

On Sunday, November 17th the Riverside Lions Club will be holding a walk and activities to focus on diabetes awareness in our community.

The event will focus on Tailrace Park in Riverside commencing at 11.00am.

There will be a walk from the Tailrace to the Paterson Street Bridge and back, approximately 4 km in total. Everyone is encouraged to walk, and children, bikes, scooters and pushers are very welcome.

Lions clubs across Australia are conducting similar walks and each walker who participates will receive a certificate of completion at the end of the walk. The total of kilometres walked will be added to all the other walkers across the country and that will hopefully total the distance around our entire continent (25,000km!).

Those wishing to participate in the walk are encouraged to bring lunch, plenty to drink and sunscreen.

There will also be free diabetes self-assessment tests provided.

This is an event where everyone can participate, and everyone is welcome.
