Principal’s Report
Many parents will be aware that our school was featured in last week’s Wednesday edition of “The Examiner” newspaper. The main message behind the story was that Exeter High is now a school that values and ensures calm and orderly learning environments in every classroom and that we will not tolerate any forms of bullying. I noted that one parent commented on Facebook that their child had been bullied earlier in the year and that she was impressed with the swift and effective manner in the way the incident was dealt with by the school. We are not so naïve to believe that bullying never occurs in any school, however, the message I wish to reinforce is that no forms of bullying will be tolerated here at Exeter High School. I was also fortunate enough to be interviewed last Friday afternoon and it was with immense pride that I was able to discuss how amazing our school is but I also want to reinforce how important it is that we maintain the high standards that we have instilled in our students and school as a whole.
Grade 8 students have been studying the novel Matilda by Roald Dahl in class and were fortunate enough to consolidate their learning by being in the audience of Launceston College’s amazing production. A huge congratulations to the staff and students from Launceston College who created such a professional play and I was particularly pleased to hear that a number of our former students were involved in all aspects of the production.
Last week saw around 200 Grade 5/6 students from our feeder primary schools spend a day here participating in various learning activities and getting a feel for our school. I was very impressed with the students who I visited in classes on the day and I was also extremely proud of the way our current students welcomed these younger students throughout the day. Next term will see Grade 6 students attend a full day here on an Orientation Day and spend a day as though they are actual High School students. Thank you to all of the teachers involved in organising the highly successful day.
Grade 7/8 and 9 students will soon be receiving Option booklets to guide them in selecting their new Option subjects for 2020. Please take the time to sit down with your child to discuss what choices they are intending to make so that they are making informed choices.

2019 Notley Fern Gorge Excursion
On Wednesday 11th September, students enrolled in the NHSSA Sport Options and the Senior Sport Education class will attend an excursion to Notley Fern Gorge to participate in a leisurely 1.6km walk in the area.
Students will travel by bus from Exeter High (departing at 1.45pm) to Notley Fern Gorge and will return via bus to school by 3.00pm. Students are encouraged to bring a water bottle and carry vital medication (e.g. Epipen for insect bites) with them for this activity.
2019 Tailrace to Riverbend Park Fitness-based Excursion
On Wednesday 18th September, students enrolled in the NHSSA Sport Options and the Senior Sport Education class will attend an excursion to engage in fitness-based activities from Tailrace Park to Riverbend Park.
Students will travel by bus from Exeter High (departing at 12.45pm) to Tailrace and split into 3 graded group (based on fitness levels, preparation and engagement):
Group A will run from Tailrace, up the Zig-zag track and back down the other side of the Gorge to finish at Riverbend Park.
Group B will jog from Tailrace along the bike path and boardwalk to finish at Riverbend Park.
Group C will walk along the footpath from Tailrace and boardwalk to finish at Riverbend Park.
There will be a staff member with each group and three additional staff to negate numbers for larger groups and to have a staff member wearing a high-visibility vest stationed at the bridge to ensure all students cross safely to access the Zig-zag track.
Students can participate in playground activities at Riverbend Park before returning by bus to school. Students will be back on-site by 3.05pm.
Any students who wish to be collected from Riverbend Park will need to have a written note and arrange for their parent/guardian to speak with an EHS staff member at the collection point before they will be permitted to leave with that person.

COMMUNITY CORNER
Tamar Valley Junior Football Club
The Tamar Demons Junior Football Club has had a great season, with all of our 4 teams making finals. Our Under 12 boys were unfortunately eliminated in the semi-finals. Being their first year this is such a fantastic achievement for these young boys. Well done! Our Under 14 girls and Under 14 boys have had a week off after both teams making it through to the Grand Final next weekend. Our Under 16 boys had a thrilling game on Sunday, landing them a spot in the Grand Final also. Our Club is quite small compared to some, but we are mighty proud of all our teams’ achievements and the sportsmanship of all our players. On behalf of the Club and the School I would like to congratulate all teams and wish them the very best of luck for the weekend coming.
