Principal’s Report

Due to the current industrial action reporting at the end of the year will be as follows:-

All students will receive an A-E rating for all core subjects which is the normal reporting procedure. There will be an A-E rating for all option subjects but there will be no written comments and there will be no core teacher comment as well. Due to this, I strongly encourage parents to make contact with teachers to discuss your child’s progress.

Recently, we have had many fantastic achievements to celebrate within our school. Rachael Ford in Grade 7 obtained outstanding results in this year’s NAPLAN testing (top 1% of the state), and was recently recognised in an awards ceremony where she was presented with a certificate by the Education Minister, Mr Jeremy Rockliff. This is an outstanding result and we are very proud of Rachael’s achievements.

We are happy to announce that Elizabeth Rogers’ short film, ‘House of Cards’ has been accepted into the MyState film competition and voting closed yesterday. Below is the link for anyone who would like to view Elizabeth’s amazing work. We will keep you posted when we know of the results. We will also be showing the film clip at the Grade 10 Graduation assembly as the message in the film is both powerful and valuable to our community.

Catelyn Turner from Grade 10, was a guest cyclist racing with the Tasmanian Institute of Sport in the Tour of Tasmania last Friday and this reflects Catelyn’s talent in this field. Congratulations Catelyn on this invitation and we look forward to continuing to watch your career develop over the coming years.

Last Thursday night saw our annual Arts Evening here at Exeter High School. What an amazing array of talented students we have here. The audience were treated to exceptional plays, musical items and dance performances. A huge congratulations to all of the students who either performed or acted as MC’s or support people and a big thank you and congratulations to Mrs Parish, Miss Cartledge, Mrs Youd and Mrs Howie for their guidance to their students, both on the night and the weeks preceding the night.

Tasmanians helping Tasmanians

Did you know that many Tasmanians volunteer to help people build their reading, writing and maths skills? People like Jess, in our cartoon, who is letting Dan know he can get help from 26TEN. Statewide, Libraries Tasmania, has trained over 1300 literacy and numeracy volunteers to give people one-on-one support. If you or someone you know would like to know more about adult literacy and numeracy and how you can help call 26TEN on 1300 002 610.

Cattle Handling – Westbury Show

On Saturday 10th November the Cattle Handlers attended the Westbury Show. We left the school farm at 6.30am. When we arrived at the showgrounds we immediately started washing the animals for a 9.00am start. There were a large number of exhibitors from farms and other schools and we were very pleased with our performance.

Results were:

First Place Senior Heifer Murray Grey (Imogen) led by Jay.
Second Place Senior Heifer Murray Grey (Miss Jean) led by Alexandra.

Imogen, led by Maddison, then went into the Senior Heifer Interbreed section against the first placegetters of all the other breeds and gained Reserve Champion which was second place overall.

Our entry into Breeders Pairs were led by Rhys and Harley.

All handlers entered into the Junior Handlers competition.

Results:

Maddison First Place 13/14 age group.
Jay First Place 15/16 age group.

The students were great ambassadors for the school and are to be congratulated on their commitment and enthusiasm for the program.
