Principal’s Report
Welcome back to all of our students, staff and families to what is sure to be a busy but productive Term 4 here at Exeter High School. I was very impressed on the first day of the term as I visited classrooms to see how settled and calm our students were. Throughout the term, it will be vital that all students make the most of every learning opportunity that they are presented with as the work they cover this term will lay the foundations for the curriculum covered in 2019.
During this week, our Grade 10 students sat their exams in the curriculum areas of Mathematics, English, Science and History. These provide our students with an excellent opportunity to work under conditions similar to those they will encounter at college as well as further assessment and feedback.
Our Grade 10 students also have their Graduation Week activities to look forward to but I would take this opportunity to remind them that our high expectations remain throughout this term and that these activities are by invitation. Only students who follow our school rules will be invited to participate.
I recently received our 2018 School Satisfaction Survey results and was thrilled with the data that was collected through this survey. Some of the highlights as a school were:
- 100% of staff surveyed feel their school is continually looking for ways to continue to improve
- 100% of staff and 90% of parents would recommend our school to other people
- 90% of students believe that their teachers expect them to do their best at school
- 87% believe their teachers are interested in their wellbeing
- 92% of students believe they are encouraged to be responsible for their own learning.
We will also use these results to continue to further improve Exeter High School. We can all be extremely proud of the way our school is travelling and how the community now views our school as a school that values and follows our core values of: Maturity, Learning; Acceptance and Respect.
Our students and teachers are working hard in lessons to prepare for the upcoming Athletics Carnival, being held on Wednesday 7th and Thursday 8th November, and our Arts Evening, on Thursday 15th November. Both events provide students with an opportunity to showcase their talents this term. I would encourage as many parents/carers to come along to these events to both support their children but to also celebrate their participation in the events.
