Principal’s Report
We are nearly to the end of Term 3 and once again, there has been much to celebrate at Exeter High School. Parents of students in Grades 7 and 9 will receive their child’s NAPLAN results in the coming weeks. As a school, we have performed really well with particularly pleasing results in Grade 9 Writing where we are above the state mean score and Grade 9 Numeracy where we are equivalent to the state mean score. I would like to acknowledge the relentless hard work of our teachers and also congratulate our students for performing so well. Another part of the reason for these results is the extremely high standards we have here in relation to our expectations around student behaviour and work ethic in classrooms. As I have stated in previous newsletters, I can guarantee all parents that their child can come to Exeter High School and learn in a calm and orderly learning environment as this is a non-negotiable expectation of all students here.
On Wednesday 5th September, I was thrilled to have the opportunity to watch our Exeter Grade 9/10 Netball team play in their final at Hobblers Bridge. It was a nail biting game, with our girls losing in the final minutes by a single goal. I was so impressed by the spirit our team played with while on the court but also the humility and grace displayed by all team members as they congratulated the winning team. Well done to all of our winter sports teams who represented our school with pride throughout the roster and a big thank you to all of the coaches of our teams.
I attended the annual Exeter High School Trivia Night last Friday night and it was a fun filled night and a terrific fundraiser for our school. Thank you to all who attended as you made it such a great night. If you haven’t been before I would highly recommend that you get a table organised for next year. Well done to the SLC and Mr Stewart for organising this event.

SENIOR 1sts NETBALL:
On Wednesday 5th September the 1sts Netball team headed to Hobblers Bridge to contest the NHSSA Grand Final against Riverside High with the support of our 2nds Netball and 2nds Soccer teams cheering them along.
Exeter started well and had a three point lead at quarter time. Emily Kalos and Emily Beams were a formidable combination in the defensive end of the court and made their opponents work hard for any shots on goal. Candice Archer was matched in height by her opponent which prevented a number of lob feeds into her at our attacking goal line.
The competition tightened up throughout the second quarter and Riverside hit the lead by two goals. Stephanie Howard and Elizabeth Jones were very solid through the midcourt, with Lauren Spencer consistently linking passes to our shooters in Taylor Edmunds and Candice.
Grace Younger proved versatile in both wing defence and goal defence to replace Emily Beams who suffered an ankle injury late in the game whilst Hayley Older was rock solid with her court movement, interceptions and passing skills.
The last quarter was electric, with the Exeter girls making three consecutive goals to even up the scores. In the dying seconds of the match, Riverside scored the winning goal to be victorious (19-18). It was an outstanding performance from all players.
It has been a pleasure to coach the girls this season and congratulations for making it through to the grand final. Lastly, I would like to thank Mrs Catherine Yole who gave her time and expertise each week to coach the 2nds Netball team. Her knowledge and friendly, encouraging manner allowed all of the girls to improve their skills and teamwork throughout the season.
Mrs Jo Robinson
Catelyn Representing Tasmania
Year 10 student Catelyn Turner is heading to Bunbury, WA next week to represent Tasmania at the National Junior Road Cycling Championships. We congratulate Catelyn on her selection and we wish her all the very best. I’m sure Catelyn will share all her experiences with us when she returns to school.
Band Championship Success
We would like to acknowledge the success of the following students in the recent Band Championships: - Jasmine Russell Grade 8, Merran Clay Grade 9 and Emily Stocker Grade 9. The bands performed exceptionally well and were rewarded with the following results.
2nd place in the Junior C Grade Launceston College Concert Band
2nd place in the Open A Grade Launceston College Symphonic Band
A very close competition with only a few points separating them from first place. Congratulations to all those involved.
Excursions for HPE based options on Wednesday afternoon
2018 Gravelly Beach Off-campus Excursion
On Wednesday 26th September, students enrolled in the NHSSA Sport Options and the Senior PE Extended class will attend an excursion to engage in ball sports and activities at the Gravelly Beach Playground.
Students will walk from Exeter High (departing at 1.15pm) to the Gravelly Beach Playground via the “Goat Track”. Upon arrival, students can eat their packed lunch and then participate in some organised ball sports and games.
Following these activities, students will walk back to school via the “Goat Track” to be back on-site by 3.05pm.
Any students who wish to be collected from Gravelly Beach will need to have a written note and arrange for their parent/guardian to speak with an EHS staff member at the collection point before they will be permitted to leave with that person. Students will not be permitted to remain at the venue.
Health and PE Lessons Term 4
In preparation for our athletics carnival on Wednesday 7th and Thursday 8th November at Windsor Park, all students Year 7-10 will be training for athletics events in both their Health and PE lessons for the first four weeks of Term 4. Students are required to bring a change of gear on both of these lessons in order to participate fully in the activities. Students will be assessed on their skills as well as their attitude and effort throughout this unit.
