Principal’s Report
A very warm welcome back to everyone in our school community. I hope the break was enjoyed by all and you had the opportunity to spend time with family and friends. This week has been very settled and I have been very impressed with the way students have returned to school in uniform and reapplied themselves to their learning.
I take great pride in the way our school continues to operate, whether it be the learning opportunities that are developed by teachers, the behaviour of our students or the amazing effort all of our support staff put in to make our school what it is. Community perception is also something that I believe is important to every school. During the holidays, our auxiliary staff again did an amazing job preparing the school for another busy term. I sincerely thank them for their continued commitment in making environments more comfortable for our students to work in.
Staff have completed Mid-Year reports and three way conversations between students and parents have taken place this week. This report is designed to give a comprehensive picture of how students are progressing in each subject. These conversations are extremely important as they provide a clear insight into students learning, celebrating positive progress, reviewing learning goals and discussing any areas where improvements can be made. I was extremely impressed with the number of parents and students who participate in this valued process. Essentially, learning is a partnership between school and home and we value your support in working with us by attending these interviews. If you were unable to attend please contact the school on 6394 4366 to make alternate arrangements.
In the final grade celebration assemblies in Term 2, I had the pleasure of handing out numerous certificates and awards to our students for their achievements in areas ranging from sporting events, to the recent Drama competitions. We also had over 40 students receive certificates to recognise the fact that their attendance this year has been 100%. This is an excellent achievement and is another opportunity for me to stress the importance of your child attending school each and every day. If your child is ill or away for another reason, please contact the school office so that they can amend our records to reflect this.
I would like to publically acknowledge some of the outstanding achievement of our talented students. Will Jones (Grade 7), Georgia Woods (Grade 9) and Taylor Raine (Grade 9) were selected in the Tasmanian team for the Australian School Sports Swimming Carnival. The carnival was held from 25th-31st July in Hobart. Grade 10 student Lucy Cooper will be competing at the State U16 Hockey Championships from 6th-10th August on the Gold Coast. Best of luck Lucy! Catelyn Turner from Grade 10 will be competing at the National Cross-Country Championships on the Sunshine Coast in August. This resulted from an impressive effort at the All-Schools Cross-Country Championships held at Symmons Plains last term.
It is an amazing effort to be selected in these teams and I look forward to communicate to the wider community how these amazing students performed.
A massive congratulations also needs to go to Samuel Sherriff (Grade 9) who has been selected in the Under 15 All Australian Football team from his outstanding performance in the recent School Sports Australian National Football Carnival.

Grade 9 Science
In recent Science classes students have been carrying out flame tests to investigate the behaviour of electrons. Here are a few pictures to share

Students have been working very solidly in metal work and we wanted to share some pictures with you. The fantastic rubics man was created by Samuel Pesch (Grade 10) and the second picture is of a selection of fire pokers by various students.
