Principal’s Report
It’s hard to believe that it is already the end of week 8 of Term 2. Over the past four weeks, teachers have been writing mid-year reports that will be shared with parents/carers in the second week of term three. All of the information about dates and times is on our Facebook page. I would like to take the opportunity to thank our teachers for the amazing job they have done with these reports. The reports I have read are comprehensive and as a parent, I would be pleased to receive such detailed reports. The report your child receives reflects the work they have done so far this year but also comments on what they can do over the remainder of the year to continue progressing.
Our cross country was to be held last Friday and unfortunately, due to the inclement weather, we had to postpone the majority of the events. On a positive note, our students handled the disruption incredibly well and all grades held their events during the course of last week during their physical education lessons. Our school was also incredibly well represented at the Inter-High carnival, held this week.
Even though we are in the winter months, students are continuing to wear the full school uniform with pride. Can I please remind parents that hoodies are not part of the school uniform and that we have both rugby tops and spray jackets for sale in the school uniform shop at very reasonable prices.
I would like to welcome several new and returning students to Exeter High School and all of these have settled in really well. Cody Austin, Brody Austin, Amelia Jetson, Paige Dobson and Bimal Rai have all impressed me with the way they have embraced our Core Values.
New Education Act Updates
Volunteers and Visitors in Tasmanian Government Schools
The 2016 Education Act includes a section that outlines expectations for volunteers and visitors in Tasmanian Government Schools. In line with this, each school is developing a Volunteer and Visitor Policy. We are in the process of finalising our policy which will be circulated to the school community once it has been approved and authorised by our School Association. In conjunction with this policy the Department has produced a flyer that will help you to understand your responsibilities when visiting or volunteering in a school. It also outlines the requirement for volunteers and visitors to have a current Registration to work with Vulnerable People (RWVP) in certain circumstances and how to apply should it be necessary. A link to the flyer follows.

Risk Management and Excursions
Recently changes have been made to the Department of Education’s Major Excursion and Risk Management policies. We have updated our processes and procedures to align with these changes. One of the changes relates to parents/carers collecting a student directly from an excursion. If you wish to collect your child directly from an excursion (i.e. before the group returns to school) you must notify the school of your intention to do this prior to the excursion commencing so that the supervising teacher can be made aware of the arrangement. Your co-operation with this will assist us in keeping our students safe.

INTER-HIGH CROSS COUNTRY CARNIVAL 2018
On Tuesday 19th June, a group of 54 students set off to Kings Meadows High School to compete in the Division 1 Inter-high Cross Country Carnival. The conditions were perfect and we had plenty of time to walk around the course as it was “new” to all of our competitors, having previously been held at Windsor Park. The verdict was that “it was a much better course!”
All students conducted themselves in a respectful and mature manner while participating and spectating and gave their best efforts on the day. We had 14 of our students achieve a top ten placing and there were some outstanding individual finishes over the final 100m home straight. In particular, the Grade 10 Girls dominated their event and won the pennant by all finishing within the top 25 placing from a field of approximately 70 runners.
1st Catelyn Turner, 2nd Hayley Older, 3rd Lucy Cooper
Once again, Exeter High School “punched above our weight” by proving we are a force to be reckoned with against the larger town schools. We finished in 3rd place overall, behind Riverside and Kings Meadows High.
Well done to all team members, including our much valued reserve runners, who all contributed to this outstanding result.

Breakfast Club Underway
We have had great success in revitalising our breakfast club. Breakfast club has been underway now for a month, providing a hot drink and something to eat for all students who want to come in and escape the cold frosty mornings. We have a rush of activity as the busses roll in just before school as dozens of students come and enjoy the food. Our Student Leadership Council has been a great help in handing out hot drinks and making warm toast. We have also had help from the West Tamar Council and The Caring Network at Exeter which make it all possible.
