PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
We are now more than halfway through Term 3 and, therefore, well past the halfway point of the 2024 school year. It is timely to remind students to set and act upon some positive goals to ensure that they maximise their opportunities and achievements for the second half of the year.
Celebrating our School
There are certainly some amazing things going on at any time at Exeter High School and it is great to acknowledge and celebrate these. You may have noticed that we have increased our social media communication in recent weeks and have been able to share updates on the re-development, as well as opportunities that students have participated in such as Activities Day, Write a Book in a Day, and excursions such as the Supercars and Harvest Moon visits. We appreciate the support that we get from our school community in following the progress of our students and school.
Attendance
Our attendance has dropped a little since the first week of term. A reminder of the importance of regular attendance and explaining of any absences. As we move into the second part of the school year and warmer, longer days it is a good time for students to recommit to regular attendance and learning opportunities.
New Kitchens and Art Learning Area
Last week we were very excited to open our new kitchens and Art learning area. We are still waiting for some furniture, but both areas are now being used and it is wonderful to see students participating in practical learning in modern, built for purpose spaces.
Survey Time!
It is that time of year when we ask students, families and staff to complete DECYP surveys to inform our future direction at Exeter High School. Over the next few weeks, students will be prepared for and participate in the Student Wellbeing and Engagement Survey and families have been provided with the link to complete the Family School Satisfaction Survey. The survey is carried out on a secure website and all responses are anonymous and confidential.
All families in our school received the same survey link and no identifying information is collected. A summary of the survey results will be provided to schools.
Please contact us if you require any assistance. More information can be found here:
Thank you for taking the time to fill in this survey. We value your input and the possibility of working more closely with families.
Fundraiser Thank You
Thank you to the Valley Church and all those involved in organising and participating in the recent Fashion Spectacular which raised over $2000 for our school community. This donation will be used to support students in need. We are very appreciative of this kind gesture from people who live in the West Tamar.
Canberra Trip
On Monday, Mr Lendvay and I met with parents of students who will be attending the Canberra Trip in Week 9. Not many weeks to go before this amazing opportunity for our students. We look forward to hearing all about the activities that students will participate in on this interstate excursion.

UNIFORM
Thank you to families for ensuring that students are wearing their school uniform. This is an important part of students being a part of the Exeter High School community and something that we take pride in as a school. This is also a safety issue as we need to be able to identify who belongs here on school grounds and having students in full school uniform allows us to do this. School uniform also ensures equity amongst students in relation to what they wear to school. There is a range of uniform options for students to choose from and these are available from the school uniform shop during school days. We are also aware of the financial burdens that exist at times and can assist families with uniforms if needed. Please contact the school on 6394 4366 if assistance is needed.
If students are not in full school uniform despite assistance/uniform items being offered, they will be required to spend break times within the school library due to the safety issue mentioned before. Continued refusal to wear uniform will result in an internal suspension whereby the student will have their normal curriculum provision, but in a different grade classroom. Ongoing defiance will be treated like any other defiance and lead to an external suspension; however, we are confident students will comply with these expectations.
We really appreciate the ongoing support of parents who send their children in full school uniform, helping to uphold the high expectations we have here at Exeter High School.

ACTIVITY DAY
Year 7
The Year 7’s had a great afternoon at the Star Theatre watching the newly released ‘Inside Out 2’ movie. After viewing the first film ‘Inside Out’ in Health lessons earlier in the year, the students enjoyed the sequel that featured the main character (Riley) entering puberty and experiencing brand new, more complex emotions as a result. As a group we sat upstairs and thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. Thank you, Star Theatre, for having us!
Year 8
Year 8’s had a Trivia Afternoon (with snacks)
Students were able to organise their own teams of up to seven friends and were extremely engaged throughout the multiple rounds of questions. Topics ranged from Mathematics, Flags of the World and Popular Culture, concluding with a Bonus Round. Students enjoyed the platters of healthy food on each table and played their ‘double points’ cards strategically. The points were extremely close with the ‘Kool Kids Klub’ team of Raywin, Jet, Tyler, Thomas, Dean, Bailey and Kade winning by only 2.5 points after seven intense rounds of 10 questions.
Year 9
As part of the year 9 activity afternoon, students walked to Rose Bay Park at Gravelly Beach for an afternoon of pastoral care involving, sporting activities and socialising with a focus on mindfulness.
Year 10
On Thursday 15 August, we held our second whole-school Activity Afternoon. Students enjoyed activities aimed at fostering grade cohesion and teamwork. It was a great way to spend the afternoon, setting a positive tone for the rest of term.
During lesson 3, Year 10 students enjoyed a round-robin series of co-operative activities and games, including blindfold soccer, an engineering challenge (building a structure from spaghetti and marshmallows), and team challenges. 10C won the day, scoring 91 points, followed by 10A (64 points) and 10B (54 points). Students participated enthusiastically and demonstrated a cooperative spirit.
YEAR 10 ENGLISH – MACBETH UNIT
Year 10 English students are currently studying the Shakespearian play Macbeth, looking closely at power and corruption. Students are exploring three (3) different mediums: a graphic novel, traditional text, and traditional movie offering a multifaceted understanding of the play. Each medium brings unique benefits that enhance comprehension, engagement, and analysis.
