PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
Welcome to Term 1 2024. I am thrilled to report that we have had a fantastic, settled start to the school year. Our Grade 7 students, have been amazing in the way that they have embraced their new high school educational journey in a very positive and confident manner. I would also like to welcome the numerous new families that have joined us here at Exeter High School. We will be having a barbeque for all families who would like to come and meet the staff here. This will be held on February 27 between 3.30pm and 5.00pm.
Our Year 11/12 student numbers have dramatically increased this year and this is testament to the wonderful, engaging and authentic program that Mr Fox and Mr Finnigan have developed. Mrs Yole also joins the team this year, teaching English. I look forward to watching this group’s progress over their time here.
We also welcome Mr Jamie Pullen to our staff. Mr Pullen is an intern student and will be mentored by Mrs Robinson and Mr Stewart. I am sure he will enjoy being a part of the wonderful school community as he is also a local resident and will no doubt develop professionally under the tutelage of these two highly experienced teachers. Mrs Karley Blackberry is our Support Teacher this year and will be working closely with students and families around Learning Plans and extra support needed for students.
If you have any queries/concerns around your child at school, please contact their Grade Leaders/ASTs to discuss as your first port of call. This year, these are:
Grade 7: Mr Ty Stewart and Mrs Elle Fox
Grade 8: Mrs Jo Robinson and Mr Lenny Towns
Grade 9: Mr Stefan Lendvay and Mrs Allison Stone
Grade 10: Mrs Sharon Parish and Dr David Shorter
I look forward to a busy and successful year at Exeter High School. The redevelopment has also commenced with the kitchen spaces being the first area to be renovated to bring it up to the standards to support 21st Century learning, as will the other learning areas over the next 2-year period.
Mr Benjamin Frerk
Principal
EXETER HIGH SWIMMING TRIALS
On Monday 4th March, Exeter High School will be conducting swimming trials at the Launceston Aquatic Centre in order to select our Inter-high Swimming Team.
Students must be able to swim 25 metres of at least one stroke to attend the trials as the races will be swam over 25m, 50m and 100m distances. Ribbons will be presented to placegetters for the swimming events and new swimming records may be established.
Students will be transported to and from the venue by bus and the trials themselves will be between 9.45- 1.45pm. This will include individual races, lunch break, relays and novelty events. Students are encouraged to bring plenty of healthy snacks and a drink; however, they may be able to access the café between events. Students will be transported back to school by 3.00pm in time to catch their normal buses home.
An approximate schedule for the day is:
9.45am – 10.15am | 50m and 25m Freestyle Grade 10’s -> Grade 7’s |
