PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
Last week saw Year 7 students and staff attend their camp at Camp Banksia in Port Sorrell. I had the pleasure of spending the day with this group on Wednesday and it was fantastic to see this cohort in an environment other than their normal school setting. Students participated in several activities that were designed to build team cohesion and cooperative skills, and the participation I saw was excellent. A big thank you to the Year 7 team who both organised and attended the camp – without this commitment, these activities cannot go ahead.
Last Friday was our Professional Learning Day, where staff worked together analysing student data from our annual NAPLAN and PAT tests. We then shared and made initial plans for how we can continue to build on the already excellent work that we do as a school community. One observation from our staff was that we have set up the preconditions for learning here, where every student has the opportunity to learn in a calm and settled environment. Attendance was also discussed, with a focus on how students that do not attend on a regular basis often fall behind, as they miss out on vital teaching and learning experiences. I implore all parents to ensure their child is here in a classroom every day, to maximise their potential to learn and succeed in life.
We held our Athletics Carnival on Wednesday and Thursday this week, and the behaviour, attitude, and participation rate of those in attendance was of a high standard. Thank you to our wonderful HPE staff for organising these two days and to our staff and volunteers who ensured the smooth running of the program over the two days.
Our Year 10 students are nearly halfway through the final term of their high school life. Many of our students are continuing onto further education at either Launceston College or Newstead College, whilst there are also several students who have successfully gained apprenticeships, which is also fantastic to see. We also have students continuing their schooling here in the Year 11 Agricultural program, alongside students from other Launceston schools, as this course continues to grow in popularity.
